Anyone ever planned a Church Anniversary event?? The church that I grew up in is planning a 50 year anniversary. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas or samples of activities, invitations, brochures, etc...

Thanks.

I remember several years ago when our old church celebrated their 100 anniversary. They had a time capsule and put in several things from the current year, like the statement of faith, newspaper articles, photos, a letter from the pastor etc. and then had a dedication service. Maybe your church already has a time capsule from when they built the building, if not it would be a neat thing to start.

If you haven't already done this, you could print up the history of the church in a brochure. If pictures of former pastors are available that would be a nice addition. I visited a church recently that had pictures from all pastors on the wall. The church was started in the early 1900's so it was very interesting to see all the pastors.

We did a wall of remembrance. The entire vestibule area was covered with pictures and scrapbook pages. We had all of the ones who wanted to participate to write up their favorite memory -- funny ones, touching ones... We typed them up & printed them out, then posted them in between pictures. They each started with, "Do You Remember..."

We had a wall dedicated to all the members who had gone home to be with the Lord, too. We wrote special memories of that person beneath their picture.

It was pretty neat. We used that tacky stuff to hang up the posters & scrapbook pages, etc...so the Trustees weren't complaining about ruining the walls.

Our sound man did a mixed soundtrack of former pastor's speaking & people singing. We also had a video with clips from various activities over the years.

They had bumper stickers made up for the event and bookmarks, too. People liked having something to take home.

One lady made a cake that looked like a church (3D) like a wedding cake. It was really pretty.

I would suggest that you run an add in your local papers for a few weeks prior so that others who may lost touch with the church or prospective visitors will know about it. We had a reporter there to do an article on the day, too. We got a lot of visitors from that. Maybe you have a local Christian radio station that would announce it?

At the end of the festivities, we had a dedication service to dedicate the future years of our church to God's glory. It was a perfect way to end the day!

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.
