| October is Pastor Appreciation month so we want to show our appreciation and honor our Pastor's wife at our October meeting. Any ideas on special things we could do? |

How thoughtful of you to include your PW! I'm sure she will feel very blessed. As a PW, sometimes I don't take the time or money (especially the money!) to do special little things for myself. A gift card to a specialty store like Bath & Body Works, a Christian book store, a dress shop, shoe store, or a nice restaurant would ensure she does something for herself. I once recieved a gift certificate to walmart and yes, I used it to get groceries for the family.
Also, one of the best gifts you can give her is to let her know a specific way the Lord has used her in your life and in your church. It's like balm to the soul, knowing you've been a blessing to the people at church outside of what your husband does. Even if she doesn't do lots of visible work at church, let her know you appreciate her sacrificing time with her husband so he can minister to his flock.
Hope this helps. God bless you!

A few years ago our church gave our Pastor's wife a Gift Card Tree. It was like a money tree, but they used clips to attach gift cards. She got gift cards to the Dress Barn, Bath & Body Works, Sears, Wal-Mart, Payless, J.C. Penney's... She really enjoyed that! I remember how excited she was.
Another thing I have seen was when my friend's church purchased an arrangement of yellow roses in a vase for the front of the church. Then they had people read a reason for which they were thankful for her. Each person would begin with, "One rose because I remember when..." -- that type of thing. It was really neat. I think they had about 30 roses. My friend said that they sent out requests for people to donate $3.00 for a rose for the Pastor's wife & for volunteers to read their note of thanks to her. Of course, the PW got to keep the roses & notes.
Maybe you could arrange to have meals delivered to her for a week to give her a break from cooking, or get her a gift certificate for a maid service so she could have her house cleaned once or twice. I know I would really enjoy having a professional clean my house once in a while!
As a preacher's wife, I know that yours will deeply be touched that you are remembering her in a special way.

| That is very kind of you! If they have children, you could offer babysitting and an evening out for her - perhaps to have her hair and nails done, and to have a nice dinner or something. I NEVER buy things for myself, so any little luxury item might be nice. Special chocolates, nice lotion, or as some mentioned, gift cards. As a pastor's wife, I always appreciate kind words from the people ofthe church - you could have people write her a nice card, and put a gift card of small value in each one. One couple had us to their home for a five course meal, and that was fun. I love new pajamas - perhaps that is too personal, but I love them, all the same! Tess |

Thanks ladies for your suggestions, they were very helpful. We had our meeting last Friday evening (10/6/06) and it was great. We used the rose idea and each lady gave her a rose and said something special about our PW. We also gave her gifts - a certificate for a manicure, a basket full of foot creams, bath stuff and house shoes and a night gown. The evening was refreshing and I believe encouraging for our PW. Thanks again for your help.

I loved those ideas. Our pastor and his wife are coming from Michigan. They have to sell their house and business. So our pastor's appreciation will be later. the pastor's wife hardly gets recognized as often as she should. Sometimes they work as hard as their husbands and sometimes
are very lonely.
When we were associate pastor's it was so nice to be spoiled. |
