Hi Nanagoose!
My husband and I used to run a children's camp. We had the delight of adding a couples' retreat to the schedule and it was so well received. Our situation was best for a one day retreat as rustic children's housing isn't a super "romantic" setting.
At one of the retreats, we began the morning offering breakfast refreshments as the couples arrived. We took pictures of each couple with after they were registered (couples never have enough pictures of them) that we had printed during the retreat and sent home in a portfolio. There were uninhibiting icebreaker type games so the group could mingle a bit. We did a fun skit on the topic "We're So Different" that sort of spoofed the way we love all the differences between us before we are married and the way we hate them after we are married.
There was quite a variety of seminar topics: children, finances, Putting Her in Her Place (honoring your wife), the rules of good communication, being a H.O.T. wife (holy, outrageous, trustworthy).
We also had a couple of worksheets that were meant to open communication between a husband and wife that they took to a private place to talk through.
And, I think everyone who attended the retreat will remember the 10 Second Kiss. Our main speaker challenged each couple to make time each day for a 10 second kiss. We often run through life and just brush by our sweetheart. He had them try it before they left to do the worksheets on communication. Lots of giggles, some raised their folders for privacy, everyone saw the benefit it could produce.
We had a great lunch in between all of that and then closed the retreat with dinner for two and a few more ~ candles, romantic Christian music, elegant meal...
Every couple should value their marriage enough to do things like get away together when they can. A format like a couples' retreat can help us sharpen each other's iron and strengthen marriage and families. Male leadership and involvement on the platform is very important. If men see other men leading, they are more willing to be involved than if a woman runs the whole platform.
Of all the retreats we have planned or attended, the couples' retreats are our favorites.
Blessings! _________________ EFY

Hello EFY!!!
Thanks very much for the ideas!! You really gave me something to work with. My husband is working with me on this and he really is enjoying
helping to plan these kind of activites. I really feel like we are reaching
out to one another more since we began planning this!! Isn't that just
like our heavenly father?? He is so good to me,that I can't thank him
enough!!!
Always Be Blessed!!!

These topics are great! I am sure that if you publish "Putting her in her place" or "Being a H.O.T. wife" in a program it would certainly pique everyone's curiosity. _________________ ~Jodi |
