One of the ideas that we used for our ladies' fellowships was the theme of "A Look at the Shepherd" (alternative title would be "A New year A New EWE").
The following are ways that we carried out our theme:
1. White linen tablecloths, black and white napkins (we used striped), and a black piece of construction paper with sheep facts printed on a white piece of typing paper. (It has been said that Woodrow Wilson used sheep to keep the White House lawn manicured.)
2. The centerpieces were simple white baskets with black tissue paper and goody bags. (We used Mary Kay Satin Hands samples for each bag.)
However, stuffed sheep or other types of sheep would be cute.
3. One table was set in the center of the room with a green tablecloth and a shepherd. We used Playmobil sheep to set around him at different places: some close, some far away, some close but turned away. At the end of the devotion the ladies were encouraged to look at the display to see where they were in relation to their Savior.
4. The devotion was centered around Psalm 23--we took each verse in turn and discussed it in context. Phillip Keller, a shephered, has some excellent insight on a shepherd's point of view in his books.
5. Games were taking prominent names of women in history, placing one on a piece of paper on each ladies' back, and she'd have to ask different people questions to find out her person. Rewards were "Sheep Socks" purchased on e-bay. The second game was a take on the safety pin game. The word that we couldn't say was "YOU" a take on "EWE". It was funny, and instead of safety pins, we used cotton balls.
6. Our meal was soup and bread and desserts (a sheep cake), but you could have "Shepherd's Pie", Green Salad, and Sheep Cookies.
7. If this is done at the beginning of the year, you could have a lady that is good with make-up, skin care, dressing, etc. come and speak on improvement in appearance. Many stores are willing to send a consultant out to do this. The best success that we have had was a lady from Coldwater Creek that brought clothes and demonstrated how they coordinated, were accessorized, and what updates would be good for the year. My only suggestion is that the consultant be "briefed" on the modesty issue as a precaution. Fortunately, we've had great response to all of this, and we've used connections in our church to find good people.

Hope this helps someone looking for a theme for a fellowship. We had good fun, and the theme seemed to pull together well.

I thought I had a 'sheep' (Lord is my Shepherd) theme on the website? I can't find it in the themes. Does anybody remember if I ever had it posted? I know I remember typing out all the stuff for it. Stuffed sheep decorations and I think I had a sheep game, etc.? Maybe I just typed it out for someone and emailed it to them. People are always asking me for theme info. Maybe I just didn't put it on the site. I've done that theme before and it can be a lot of fun. Let me know if you remember me having it. If you copied the info and could send it to me, that would be great. I can't find it in my files after looking briefly, but I could have it filed weird. I'm famous for not organizing my computer files very well.
