The theme for our next meeting will be "Fruit of the Spirit". I have already visited Julia's page https://www.creativeladiesministry.com/fruitofspirittheme.html
and plan to use some of her ideas.
Just wondering if anyone else had any other ideas to add to this theme? I am especially looking for games/activities/skits that would go along with this theme.
Our meal will consist of all kinds of fruit of the earth. We will have baked potatoes with all the toppings, salad, fruit and of course fruity desserts.
Decorations for this theme seem easy...fruit. Mr. Green
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Hi Jodi,
I haven't been able to post much lately.
I have had a very busy summer. Busy with some home improvement projects as well as spending time with the grandkids. Kept my seven year old granddaughter during her summer break from school. She's back in school now. Hopefully I can get back to the henhouse and catch up. I took a peek just now and noticed your post about your upcoming retreat for fruit of the spirit.
We have one coming up in Sept. but ours goes along with Matthew 6:21.

I wasn't sure that I could post this skit with your post on the CLM. It's a copyrighted skit but you can read the stips at the end of the skit. It's O.K. to use it. Just wasn't sure if Julia allows this to be posted or not. You are more familiar with the regs than I. If you want you can add it to your post for others just in case they might be interested in using it if Julia is O.K. with it.
I saw this performed before and it is really cute and it makes a strong statement esp where there are ladies who seem to be competitive.

AMY -- (enters carrying styrofoam coffee cup, crosses to
opposite exit, screams loudly)

SUE -- (enters carrying styrofoam coffee cup, begins crossing to
Amy) Did I just hear someone scream out here?

AMY -- (crossing to Sue) Oh, it was just me, letting off steam.

SUE -- What are you steamed about?

AMY -- (points an angry finger, opens mouth)

SUE -- Oh, don't tell me. It was the banquet. Wasn't it?

AMY -- No, it wasn't the banquet. It was Pastor Tom. (imitating
with sugar sweet smile) "I'd like to thank all those who made
yesterday's banquet a smashing success, particularly Mildred
Hawkins, who served a scrumptious meal and Jennifer Tisdale, who
supplied the marvelous entertainment." (sneers) It's like I
wasn't even there! (handing her cup to Sue) Excuse me for a
moment. (turns, crosses to exit, screams again, turns back takes
cup) Thank you. I feel much better now.

SUE -- I doubt it. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

AMY -- Where do you suppose Pastor Tom would have sat at the
banquet if "I" had not borrowed all those tables and chairs from
two other churches? And do you suppose ANYONE would have been
able to even SEE the entertainment if I hadn't called all over
town to find a portable stage for them to perform on?

SUE -- Poor baby.

AMY -- Do you know where Mildred Hawkins got the menu for her
SCRUMPTIOUS meal? I was the coordinator for the whole banquet
and I didn't even get an honorable mention.

SUE -- Poor baby.

AMY -- You're a lot of help.

SUE -- I'm just waiting for you to finish.

AMY -- Finish what?

SUE -- Feeling sorry for yourself.

AMY -- Oh, I suppose you would have taken in right in stride,
being completely ignored.

SUE -- Well, first, I have this vague recollection that it says
in the Bible that I will get all my rewards in Heaven.

AMY -- Oh, don't start quoting scripture.

SUE -- Second, it may not have been an oversight at all that
Pastor Tom failed to mention your name.

AMY -- You mean he did it deliberately?! Why, that... (tries to
cross by Sue)

SUE -- (blocks her way) Wait a minute. That's not what I said. I
said maybe it wasn't an accident. I didn't say who intended it.

AMY -- I'll bet it was Jennifer Tisdale. Why, that... (tries to
cross by Sue)

SUE -- (blocks her way) Wait a minute. That's not what I said
either. What I'm trying say is that maybe it's the Holy Spirit
who caused Pastor Tom to overlook you.

AMY -- Yeah, right. Who are you protecting?

SUE -- You don't see it, do you?

AMY -- See what?

SUE -- Galatians 5:23.

AMY -- (sighs) Instead of an explanation, I get a scripture
verse.

SUE -- Galatians 5:23 is exactly what I'm trying to explain.
Listen: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and
self-control." While you're out here screaming hysterically,
Mildred and Jennifer are in there (points over shoulder) right
now glowing with the fruit of the spirit.

AMY -- Of course, they got recognition!

SUE -- That's not why they're glowing. When people do the work
of the Lord, hand in hand with the Holy Spirit, they come out of
it with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. What did you (points)
get out of all your hard work on the banquet?

AMY -- Ignored. I got completely ignored.

SUE -- You still can't see it, can you?

AMY -- See what?

SUE -- How is your daily quiet time with the Lord?

AMY -- What daily quiet time? For the last two weeks, every time
I sat down with my Bible I thought of a half dozen details that
had to be taken care of for the banquet, like what did Sharon
Wilkinson do with the table cloths before she went to the
funeral in Iowa?

SUE -- Poor baby.

AMY -- You're doing it again.

SUE -- You're still missing the point. If you go in there right
now and talk to Mildred and Jennifer, I'll bet both of them will
say that they haven't missed a quiet time with the Lord in two
weeks. That's why they're glowing. They were glowing this
morning BEFORE they were recognized by Pastor Tom. How were
things with you this morning after that marvelously successful
banquet?

AMY -- (sighs) I was miserable. Nothing went right. I honked at
three cars on the way to church. You should have heard the names
I was going to call them. (sigh) Alright, I'll admit it. I have
been doing the Lord's work without the Lord, so of course I
don't have any peace or joy. (sighs) I've just got to get back
to my daily time with the Lord.

SUE -- (hugs Amy) Good for you. You learned the lesson. (pulls
back) Now I can tell you.

AMY -- Tell me what?

SUE -- Pastor Tom stopped me at the coffee table just now and
told me not to let you leave church this morning without a hug
and a big apology. He wrote your name at the top of a slip of
paper and when he pulled it out of his pocket this morning, your
name was covered up by a fold in the paper.

AMY -- (grabs Sue's elbow, escorts her to exit) I bet I know who
folded the paper.

BOTH - The Holy Spirit. (they laugh as they exit)

Oh No! I thought that I was sending my post regarding the skit to Jodi as a PM. That is why it reads like it does. Julia, I hope that it was O.K. to post this here cause I have done it already, accidentally!
If it's not O.K. accept my apology and remove it.

Hi Mert,
Normally it is not okay to post information even if you have the author name and copyright information because it is illegal to post without permission from the author (or publisher) no matter whether you list the source or not. However, I won't remove this because Bob Snook freely allows his scripts to be reproduced as long as you have his information with it as you have done. Actually, I think he requires his link and email (but I'll add it in for you:) Bob Snook is an older man who is very generous and just wants to use his talent for the Lord. Some of his scripts are a little untraditional but you can find some gems in them.
http://www.fea.net/bobsnook/

I used to have some of his (Bob Snooks) scripts typed out on the website but I took them down because I'm just about out of room (webspace) so instead I just have his link on the skits page instead of keeping his scripts on this website.

Blessings,

Mert,
Thanks for the skit. I had seen that one before but had forgotten about it. Thanks so much! Glad you are back at the henhouse. Mr. Green

There are fruit of the spirit bracelets kits you can make for $2-3 per kit or you could use the info and have someone hit the bead store and buy all beads in bulk. If not interested in making, then give one or two away as a door prize but make them a little nicer.

These games were given to me....I have played fruit basket. Although about peed my pants when these Christian women were practically tackling each other to in essence play a version of musical chairs (we placed ours in a huge circle) Two ladies flew over a chair as they knocked it over trying to get it.

A game called Fruit Basket Turn-over.

Everyone sits in a circle with one person standing in the middle. Each person is given a different fruit name. The person in the middle names off a fruit or as many fruits as she wishes. The fruits that were named have to jump up and change seats while the person in the middle tries to find a seat. The person left standing is the next one to call out fruits. Instead of naming a bunch of fruits, at any time, the person in the middle can say, "Fruit Basket Turn-over" and every one has to get up and change seats. It is a fast paced game and gets a lot of laughs.

An icebreaker I've done before which could be adapted to this theme....each group gets a pair of garden gloves... they have to open a package of gum with the gloves on, open a piece and eat it before passing the gum and gloves on to the next person. It is not very easy to do and it is a lot of fun. You could use Juicy Fruit or Fruit Stipes gum.

One thing I found: Peel an apple - the person with the longest piece of "skin" wins.

Use Jelly Belly Fruit bowl Jelly Beans (or other favorite fruit flavored candy). I used this at my Council meeting and it was a hit. (I also corresponded the natural fruit with the spiritual fruit, see below.) Have each person choose their favorite "fruit" and then finish the statement Red (Cherry, because it has pits) I really loose my SELF-CONTROL when my child ________________. Yellow (Lemon represents a zest for life) I find my greatest JOY in mothering to be ________________. Lt. Green (Lime, mixes well with a lot of things like a peaceful spirit) The thing that brings the greatest PEACE in my life is_____________. Dr. Green (Green Apple, natural and serene color, even and balanced like patience) I loose my PATIENCE the easiest when ___________________. White (Coconut, got milk? A little kindess goes a long way.) I try to teach KINDNESS to my children by _________________. Yellow Speckled (Peach, warm/fuzzy like goodness) I believe the GOODNESS of mothering is displayed by ____________________.

I also have a fruity word search but this forum doesn't allow for attachments. If I had your e-mail I could send if interested.

You can also go to www.puzzlemaker.com and create your own or a different kind.

Isn't that the greatest puzzle maker? I've used it several times. I love it because any theme you have you can make up whatever you want with it. One idea for it is if you are having a homecoming or church anniversary, you can put in all your church folks last names and make up a puzzle of your church family. Or for missionary banquets, you could put in all of your missionary names and make up one with all your missionaries in it. flowercool

Recipe for punch to go along with fruit of the spirit theme.

Festive Fruit Punch

For the Punch

1 can (6 ounces) frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed

1 can (6 ounces) frozen pineapple juice concentrate, thawed

1 can (6 ounces) orange or tangerine juice concentrate, thawed

5 cups water

2 bottles (29 ounces each) ginger ale, chilled

ice cubes

For the Garnish

kiwi slices

orange curls

strawberry slices

1. To make the punch, in a punch bowl, mix lemonade, pineapple juice and orange juice concentrates and water. Blend well.

2. Add chilled ginger ale and ice cubes just before serving.

3. Make the fruit garnishes: Using a peeler score stripes on the kiwi, from top to bottom, all the way around the fruit at about 1/8-inch intervals; cut kiwi into 1/4-inch slices. Make orange curls by using a zester to remove peel in a circular motion from top to bottom. Try to cut only the top layer of peel, avoiding the white, bitter pith underneath. Garnish the punch with the kiwi, orange curls, & strawberry slices.
