I just thought that I would do a post on this as I haven't seen one yet.
We are doing our pastor appreciation program next Sunday. We are doing a little skit with lip syncing a song. It's not going to last long but it is really funny. The name of the song is "The Pastor's Barbeque." I found this last year and we never got to do it because our pastor's wife was very ill and near death at the time that we had planned the pastor appreciaton. We did lose our dear pastor's wife last May. Anyway this was passed on to the committee that is in charge of P.A. this year. We normally have P.A. in June of each year so next year I will be a part of the June committee so I am planning ahead and trying to gather ideas. Our committee will have Father's Day to take care of next year too. I would post the link to "The Pastor's Barbeque" but I don't think that we are allowed to post links here unless they are craft related. If you want to PM me I can give you the link.
Our skit revolves around a church picnic so we will end our program and service with a cookout at the church.
What I want to know is this. What are you all planning for PA this year? Whether it be funny or serious I would love to hear what some of you are doing.
Mert

Your skit & cookout sounds really fun. Our church family always has a blast at cookouts.

We do our pastor appreciation activities in October to coincide with the national clergy appreciation month, so we haven't really thought about it yet for this year. Last year the church bought our pastor a Ron DiCiana (I hope I've spelled his last name correctly) framed print for his home study. It had a pastor pictured in the pulpit with the images of great men of faith behind him and Jesus with his hand on the pastor's shoulder. The verse on the bottom was the NT verse "....great cloud of witnesses..." Also, we encourage our church folks to send them a card, fix a meal for them, take them out to eat, etc. all during the month.

We do PA in October too. Last year, we had a "dessert and finger foods" get together at our fellowship hall after services on Sunday night. We made a slide show called "This is your life" of old photos of our pastor from when he was young until now. It was great! (We got photos from Pastor's wife and church members). We even made "movie tickets". We also framed an old photo of our church (40 years ago) in a nice frame and mat, and presented it to him.

Faraboverubies, that is a great idea. Just talking about all of this has "started my wheels to turning!" Our church is praying about our building program and may be tearing down our old building and building a new one. We need to make some photos for history's sake anyway!

Our church honors us on the anniversary that my husband became pastor. Last year for my husband's fifth anniversary as Pastor one of the ladies put together a slide show. It was the most touching thing we have ever received. I loved seeing the memories from the last five years.
Another lady put together a photo album (it actually grew into two volumes) of pictures over the last five years. She made two copies, one to present to us and one to keep at the church so the church can preserve its memories.

These are my favorite gifts we have received. I hope they do it again when we have been there 10 years. Very Happy

I appreciate the ideas that you ladies have given. I really like the idea of the slide show presentation. Does anyone else have anything to add?
Keep em coming!

Mert,
This is a prayer that I printed for my pastor during pastor appreciation. If you're interested, I could e-mail you the picture that I used to write this on, it is very beautiful. I remember him saying that he took it to the ministerial alliance to show it off and took it all over town...he said it was one of the nicest gifts he has ever received. I am not the author and I don't know who is. Anyway...

A Prayer for my Pastor

Lord Jesus,

You are our great, good Shepherd. What's more, you have graciously given pastors to your church on earth to shepherd your people as your representatives. Thank you!

Thank you especially for Pastor ___________.

Stir up the gifts you have placed in Pastor___________for doing your work among us (1 Timothy 5:14).

Teach Pastor _______the kindness and gentleness toward others that only you can teach (1 Timothy 5:1).

Lead all of us to honor Pastor ________'s preaching and teaching, to listen, believe, and obey (1 Timothy 5:17).

Protect Pastor ___________'s health and family from the attacks of the evil one, and draw all family members closer to you and to one another (Titus 1:6).

Remind Pastor ________daily of your help and support; of your suffering, cross, and resurrection; and of the crown of glory you have promised your faithful servants-a glorious crown which will never fade away (1 Peter 5:4).

Work in all of us at ______________Church so that we submit gladly to Pastor _______'s leadership, recognizing the authority and responsibility you have established in your church. Help us to live together in peace and zeal for your Gospel so that on the day you call Pastor __________to give an account, may it be a joy for Pastor ___________ and not a time of grief (Hebrews 13:17).

Open our hearts to be truly thankful for Pastor ___________'s work among us. Open our eyes to see ways to be more supportive and encouraging. Show us how to overlook faults and to celebrate the gifts you have poured out on us in Pastor _____________.

All for the glory of Christ Jesus and the growth of his kingdom. In his precious name. Amen.

You have no idea what it means for a pastor to know that they are appreciated. We were at a church for 3 years an were only recognized once, it's sad to know that when we left in August , that they had a huge blowout for the new pastor and all of the pastor's wifes got corsages. Sure people can say alot with their mouths but when you see it done as a big celebration it really feels good.

Hi Girls!

I just wanted to bring this thread up again as we are now getting closer to October ~ the month many churches have Pastor Appreciation. Are there any other ideas floating about? These have been great. Our church family has used almost every one of them so I'm wondering what your brains can cook up?

A couple of ideas that weren't listed:

My daughter wrote a little song a few years ago to the tune of "You are My Sunshine." She did a verse for Pastor and his wife. She was 7 at the time so it was pretty simple ~ you could do one for your own pastor easily.

Our teens did a skit where a young man went to a career agency and wanted the job of a pastor since it was "a really easy job." After a few interviews at the local church, the job hunter thought maybe another position was called for.

A previous year, the teens gave P&W a few days in a Gatlinburg cabin. Last year, they made a certificate for Dinner for Two served by the youth.

Our church raised money to roof his house by having a man in the church make a small look alike house as a bank. Gifts were placed in the hinged lid "roof."

My children decorated a pint jar, one for P & one for W. I had them write an encouragement, prayer or verse for each of them each day for a couple of months and put them in the appropriate jar so P&W could open their little notes at will. If they wrote a prayer, I had them pray that for their pastor or wife at that time. I want my children to love their pastor and wife AND to respect the man of God.

There's a few little ideas, your turn! Very Happy

Blessings!

Hello Ladies!

I am a PW and have a few suggestions for showing your Pastor and his wife that you appreciate them. The size of a congregation often determines what duties a Pastor must fill in a church. If it is a smaller church with limited funds, he may also work a public job to provide for his family. Personally my husband, myself, & our two children have done alot of work in the church such as cleaning, remodeling/repairs, mowed the lawn and much, much more! Many times, we had to, or it wouldn't have gotten done. I think it would be nice if folks would just take inventory and notice the different jobs their Pastor & his wife fill. See if you or someone else in the church could do some of these things to free your Pastor up so he can spend more time in God's Word and ministry. This will certainly be a blessing to him, and the church as well! I also think it is very nice when people in the church invite the Pastor & family to their house for a meal,or out to a restaurant to eat. We aren't asked out very often, but this is something I truly enjoy as a PW! Sometimes letting your Pastor know of a specific time or way that his ministry helped you is very encouraging to him also. These may not be things you would use in a "Pastor Appreciation Service", but I guarantee if they're done throughout the year, it will mean alot more than you might think!

God Bless & Keep You!
