Hello ladies, just droppin' by to ask if any one have any ideas they could give to help make this event one that glorify the Lord. The young women missionary society at my church which I am a part of will be celebrating their 8th anniversary together the 1st weekend in October and has agreed to do a 2 day women's conference ~ Theme for this event is "Extreme Spiritual Makeover".
We plan to have a speaker for that Saturday and one speaker for that Sunday. Do anyone have any ideas on any sub-topics? On Sat. we plan to do door prize drawing giving away 3 facials, gift card for manicure/pedicure but we need ideas for door favors. Any ideas to help make this program a success will be greatly appreciated ~ poems, skits, decorations, order of service, etc.
Thanks in advance for you help. |

Maybe since your theme is on Spiritual makeovers you could find some good books at your local Christian book store. Maybe inexpensive prayer journals or women's devotional books for your door favors? If you have a Dollar Tree near you, they often carry Christian things like that which surprised me.
If I think of anything else I'll post it...my mind is a little on overload today

Hi "Highly favored"! This is a long first post! But I got so excited about your post because we are working on the same thing - In fact our women's conference theme 3 years ago was "Highly Favored!"
We are planning our fall women's conference also right now. OUr theme is "A Makeover of the Heart: Rediscovering the Beauty God has Placed in You." We are doing it on Friday night & Saturday from 9-3.
We are decorating with pale pink & white sheer fabric. Table decor will be slate stones with pebbles on them, a small bowl with water and a floating lily, and two white candles. (Jesus is our rock, Jesus is our living water, Jesus is the Lily of the Valley, Jesus is the light of the world.) Very spa looking...
Here is some of the wording from our brochure to give you some ideas of what we are doing.
Would you like to get away to a whole new you? Are you feeling stressed out and in need of rejuvenation and relaxation? Come spend a some time at River of Life Worship Center’s 5th Annual Women’s Conference and experience with us a full mind, body, and spirit makeover.
Your pampering package will include:
HEART MAKEOVER
MIND RENEWAL
FULL BODY AND SPIRIT LIFT
Most makeovers only change the way we look, but the makeover God wants for us has the power to change who we are.
Our makeover will include:
STONY HEART REMOVAL -
And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: Ezekiel 11:19
MIND CLEANSING TREATMENT -
According to Ephesians 4:23, we are to be “renewed in the spirit of your mind”.
FULL BODY & SPIRIT LIFT -
Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. James 4:10 tells us how we can experience the ultimate lift, when we are humble in the sight of the Lord.
BEAUTIFUL HANDS & FEET -
Psalm 40:2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, [and] established my goings.
FACIAL THERAPY -
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, [even] as by the Spirit of the Lord. —II Corinthians 3:18.

Thank You Laura for telling me about your upcoming women's conference. You all have some great ideas. Our missionary group meets this Saturday and I'm going to share the information you provided with them. Hope your women's conference is a success.
The following is lengthy but I found this article on the internet entitled "Spirited Change" I cut out some of the wording and plan to include it in our program bulletin for that Sat. or Sun. Something the ladies can read after conference. Hope you can use it in some way.
"Spirited Change"
Written by Valerie Burton
In a society that prizes status, money, and looks, it can be tempting — and sometimes automatic — to create goals that focus on financial success, weight loss, and networking your way to the top of your career. Without a spiritually-driven purpose to support your goals, you'll soon find yourself with outward manifestations of success but a soul that seeks a deeper purpose.
Real and lasting change must begin from the inside and work its way out. You need to consider a "spiritual" makeover. Take the time to evaluate and examine your relationship with Christ, your spiritual growth, and the ministry outlets in your life. Are there things you'd like to change? Are there areas that need your undivided attention? Do you need to let go of certain things? Aligning your life to new purposes might seem as life-changing as an extreme makeover. But this transformation is about bringing out the best you have to offer by examining and maximizing your connection and faithfulness to God in every area of your life — from your relationships and health to your work and money.
Take inventory of your inner appearance. Are you kind, gentle, gracious, confident, teachable, thoughtful, hospitable, affirming, humble, tenderhearted, disciplined, and godly in all you do, think, and say? A daily workout regimen for shaping up in these areas will count for eternity."
Make a vow to deepen your relationship with God. By making Him the focus, you'll discover new insights about yourself and God's unique plan for your life. Taking your spiritual life to a new level. The type of life Jesus offers His followers: "I have come that they may have life and have it in abundance" (John 10:10b). It's up to us to accept it.
So, where do you begin? The process will be different for each person, but the following steps will provide the inspiration and foundation you need to get started.
1. Make a connection daily. It's the invisible web in your life that connects you to God, yourself, and others. First you must recognize when your life is disconnected spiritually, emotionally, and socially and then take the necessary steps to reconnect.
Among the most important daily habits you can form are spiritual disciplines. Start by choosing three disciplines to engage in on a daily basis that empower you to communicate with God and monitor your own feelings, thoughts, and emotions. Praying, journaling, meditating, reading, and participating in praise and worship are just a few of the habits from which to choose. Commit time to deepening your relationship with God. Like building a quality relationship with a friend or loved one, a relationship with God requires your attention.
2. Don't be afraid to deal with the truth. Once you begin spending time with God simply to be in His presence, He will begin to reveal the ways in which He would like to see you transform your life. Communicating with Him daily opens the door to seeing yourself as God sees you. And it's through His eyes that you most need to see yourself. He sees the areas in which you most need a "makeover," but often our own fears, insecurities, and concerns leave us oblivious to the truth about ourselves. Don't be afraid of what God reveals to you. His desire is that you stop working around the issues and problems of life and begin working through them.
3. Learn to truly love yourself. Jesus proclaimed "… Love your neighbor as yourself" to be the second of the two great commandments (Matt. 22:39). If you don't truly love yourself, you'll be hindered in your ability to love others. Do you beat yourself up for making mistakes, experiencing failures, or not living up to your own self-imposed expectations? Do you neglect to take care of your body, get the rest you need, and establish appropriate boundaries in your life? If so, take this year to deliberately seek ways to love yourself more. Make weekly appointments with yourself to do things that rejuvenate your spirit. Ask yourself, What brings me joy? Then find ways to add more of whatever it is to your life. Ask, What makes me feel loved? Then take steps to fill your life with more love.
4. Identify what you need to let go. Every makeover requires you to let go of the old so you can try something new. What habits, attitudes, or situations in your life are outdated, inefficient, or counterproductive? As God makes over your spiritual life, He'll require you to let go of some things so you'll be free to move closer to your potential.
Proverbs 4:23 says, "Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life." What issues do you need to address to ensure that your heart is pure? Take some time to examine attitudes and behaviors in your life that can prevent you from having a pure heart. Consider the following questions as a start of this process:
Is your pride or ego out of control?
Do you have unforgiveness, bitterness, or resentment in your life?
Is gossip a problem for you?
Do you envy what others have?
Any sin that goes unaddressed in your life will interfere with your ability to connect spiritually.
5. Identify where you are headed. Proverbs 29:18 tells us, "Without revelation people run wild, but one who keeps the law will be happy." As you connect with God and yourself, you'll begin to see a clearer picture of the life God intended for you. Your vision should stretch you beyond where you are now. It will test your courage and faith. It will serve as a compass on
your path. You might get lost or distracted along the way, but with a vision you have a sense of direction that guides you back to the right path. Pray that God will give you a clear vision for every area of your life — your relationships, work, finances, health, and spiritual life. Then use this vision to stretch beyond the boundaries of your current life and to move to the next level of your life.
6. Seek knowledge and understanding. Pray for wisdom. One of the most important ways to grow spiritually is to know God's Word. Our relationship with Him grows stronger when we read Scripture and seek not to simply know it, memorize it, or recite it, but to truly understand it. Being able to understand the principles and guidance God provides through His Word gives us the basis to develop wisdom.
7. Take action consistently. This is where your faith is tested. "You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.
What could you change in your daily routine that would enable you, over time, to bring your vision to life?
So often, our habits are so deeply entrenched that we don't even notice how they impact us. Transforming your spiritual life is about transforming your whole life. It's about birthing the potential and possibilities that exist for you. You have to take action like setting aside time to pray and seek God's guidance and wisdom on a daily basis. This takes discipline, but the benefits are invaluable. |
