Our VBS is about traveling around the world. My idea is to make "passports" for the kids to wear.. I am in the process of taking pictures of all our regular kids each sunday with my digital camera and then I will print them and put them on a name tag that says passport and what class they are in..my question is what can I do to attach them to the kids... I thought I would laminate them and punch a hole or two in the top and then use differnt colored string, yarn or lanyards for each class.. I hate to spend all the money on the lanyards if there is an easier way that won't get so tangled. We have them turn them in each night so we can keep them and hand them in as they check in each night and each year we use yarn and boy what a mess we have untangling them... any ideas would really be appreciated... any type of string, ribbon or something that won't get so tangled? Thanks

I don't have any brilliant ideas for you just wanted to say I love the passport idea!

Our church bit the bullet, so to speak, and purchased lanyards this year for the workers which were awesome.

What we did for the kids was a little bit unusual, but it worked great. We have done the yarn thing for years & had the same trouble...nothing but tangles. So, one of the ladies who likes to crochet had the idea to use yarn, but crochet 3 rows of a standard stitch(about 18" I think) leaving enough yarn at each end to attack it to the name tag. We had a large cork board behind us with each grade listed. Below the grade we put large hooks. As the kids left, we hung their nametag under the right grade....no problems at all! There were plenty of the older ladies who volunteered to do the crocheting since they wanted to help with VBS but physically were unable to do so. This let them be involved. We used a different color of yarn for each age group. The kids loved them because they weren't just yarn...they were handmade just for them. Plus, they got to keep them.

One thing that didn't get done this year that we'll do next year is to mark on their name tag if they came on a bus or church van. We didn't do that this year, and when they dismissed the kids who came in the "van" -- every little kid whose mom drives a van jumped up to leave. It was funny, but a little chaotic the first night. We usually have our busses numbered & put on their name tag "Bus 1" or "Van" so the teachers know who to let leave.

Your passport idea is great! I'll have to file that one away for another year!
