|
|
We are planning a "Men Under Construction" theme for Father's Day, but are looking for some ideas. Decorations should be easy, but we're drawing a blank on activities. For food, we had thought about sub sandwiches like construction workers might eat, but I'm not too sure that the guys would appreciate a sandwich and chips for a big special event.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help. I love this place! |

One year for father's day, I melted chocolate and poured in candy trays (hammer shape, wrench shape, saw shape) and then after they had set I put them in a freezer type bag and tied a ribbon. This was real cute.

I can't speak for all men, but the guys in my family love big sub sandwiches and chips. You could lay out the different meats, cheese, and other fixings like an assembly line and let them "construct" their own Dagwood-style sandwiches. It would match your construction theme really well, I think.

I like the sub thing. It could be like "building". If you add some good desserts I think they will love it. *S* _________________ I am not - but I know I AM |

You could always put the tonka trucks as centerpieces for the table and just add a little greenery around it.
better idea..............
use terra cotta pots and have tools worked into some cute arrangement and give them as door prizes! You can pick up tools at the dollar tree, they even have small tool boxes at the dollar tree too. |

Well, I have to tell you that they did a fabulous job on the ladies' banquet, and I'm thinking now that sandwiches would be a let-down. (They cooked and served baked ham, beef brisket, mini corn on the cob, etc., plus an unbelievable Jell-o dessert complete with strawberries and whipped cream.
I can't imagine how we will do ours bigger and better. That's a good problem to have, right? |

| I have never met a man that doesn't love a huge sandwich! But sometimes a "cold" sandwich doesn't seem as rewarding. Maybe you could still do the "build your sandwich" idea, but use hot items like philly cheese steak, BBQ beef etc. Maybe you could incorporate "dirt cake" but have it along the construction theme instead of garden pots, you can find empty paint cans at Home Depot, you could even put the theme on the can. Keep thinking, you have a great theme! |

That is a great theme! I wouldn't worry about trying to keep up with them as far as the food goes. So they cooked you a great meal...I'm sure you ladies cook them great meals all the time -- not just once a year! I think they'd love the hot sandwich idea "outnumbered" suggested! Pit Beef is ALWAYS a big hit with the guys. Add in hot wings & you've got happy men!
As far as activities go, if it is a Father/Son type banquet, you could have races like which father/son team can saw a board in half the fastest or hammer in 10 nails first. You could also give them the ultimate challenge...give them something to assemble & see which team can complete the task the quickest without having any leftover parts!
Decorating with Duct tape will be a big hit with the guys. I'd use if for everything I could think of! Plus, it would be a great give-away!
