A lady from church handed me a brochure from her sister's church about a mentoring group for ladies based on Titus 2 -- she wanted to see if our church might be interested in doing that. I told her I'd read it and share it with the pastor's wife. It involves pairing up younger women with older women who will pray for them, and they do a variety of things together.

I'm not opposed to the idea, and I haven't talked about it with the pastor's wife yet. I think we might have more women wanting to be mentored than wanting to mentor. But I have always kind of felt that the Titus 2 instruction about older women teaching the younger didn't have to be an official program or class, but rather something that happened in the course of everyday interaction. When I was a teenager in an unsaved family, a family from church started inviting me over a lot, and just watching a Christian family in action and sharing in their family devotions and talking with them did a great deal for my Christian life. But I don't think they did that on purpose to mentor me -- I think they were just being nice. And I have found that, even though I am in my mid-forties and therefore not "aged" , opportunities have come here and there to share with and encourage younger ladies.
