Ladies,
I am planning a retreat using the theme "She Buildeth Her House". Any ideas for decorating?
Thanks much,

Maybe a doll house with furniture, or if you want more rustic, use Lincoln Logs. (I say that, because I have a boy and he just got Lincoln Logs. They're everywhere! ) You could even let the ladies play with the Lincoln Logs to design their own houses.
It sounds like a great theme! _________________ God bless,

No problem! Hope your retreat goes well. It would be great if you could share what you do at it; it really does sound like a good them and I'd be interested in how you "built" on it. (pun intended! ) _________________ God bless,

I posted this somewhere else on here....
We used a building theme for a program once.
It was fall so we used oranges, reds and yellows on tables and I got cornucopia (horn-a-plenty) baskets from the local dollar store.
We sprinkled silk fall leaves (bought at Walmart) down the center of the long, rectangular tables we used.
Into the cournucopia baskets, I placed Duplos (large Legos), Lincoln Logs, wooden building blocks, etc.....so that they spilled out of the baskets onto the tables.
Our mixer/icebreaker was a modified form of bingo (because the playing cards are made up of blocks). We used building terms and tools instead of numbers.
Our food was all food that you build.
For example: lasagna, sandwiches, layered dips, layered salads, layered pudding treats, etc.
Our take home favors were prayer rocks (if you've never seen these, they are rocks that come with a cute poem to remind you to pray).
With your theme, I would add tool belts, hand and power tools, sand paper, nails, etc. to to the decor. Those "staffing" the event, I would suggest they wear plaid, flannel shirts and jeans and tool belts (think "This Old House" and that type of show).
Oh...you've got me thinking now.
I would HAVE to have some fun with a skit or something along the lines of Tim, the Tool Man, Taylor from the show Tool Time.
Have a blessed time and let us know what ideas you come up with!! _________________ Colossians 1:27 ...."Christ in you, the hope of glory." |

All of your ideas have been excellent and I am already thinking of how I can use them. Can't wait to hear from more of you.

I'm on a WM Board and when we have a banquet we name each of the tables according to the theme. The table name then helps the ladies find which table they are assigned to which is helpful when trying to seat 500 ladies.
You may not need help with seating but it could be used for fun anyway. This year our them was "If the Shoe Fits..." Each table was a type of shoe- sandal, pump, clog, sneaker, etc. You wouldn't believe how many of these we came up with!
You could name your tables types of houses - birdhouse, dog house, etc. Then use those items to decorate your tables and give them away as a door prize - 1 person at every table wins a door prize. Your dog house could be a stuffed toy since most ladies wouldn't be thrilled to win a real one.
Or you could go with structural type names - cottage, Cape Cod, ranch house, mansion, farm house, bungalow, condominium, vacation house, split level, apartment house, etc. Of course, these couldn't be given away as door prizes. _________________ God Is Good All The Time. . .

Barbara,
I love the idea of giving the tables names of houses. Thanks for replying.
My plans are coming together. PTL.
