Does anyone have any suggestions for inexpensive centerpieces for a Christmas party? We have plenty of decorations for the hall, but just no funds for centerpieces. Last year we used the small table size Christmas trees decorated with miniature ornaments on each table which we gave as door prizes. We will have about 6 of the long tables to decorate. Help please.

One year a lady in our church made these beautiful centerpieces. She took wood logs - sliced in half lengthwise - drilled holes for taper candles in the top, and somehow attached some wide red Christmas ribbon to it (but I can't remember where or how she did it, sorry!) You can also do things like glue some pine and/or pinecones to the top, leaving the holes available for placing the candles in. They were very pretty, even prettier when the candles dripped on the logs, making beautiful wax patterns on the wood.

For a long table, we just took inexpensive garlands of greenery and placed metallic round ornaments (they come in boxes of 12 or 18 and can even be found at the dollar store) intermittently along the table.

In addition to this we invited the ladies to bring in nativity scenes...we had everything from Lladro to Precious Moments to carved wood and then some.
We added these to the tables and the effect was wonderful.
One woman had mini nativity ornaments...each ornament was a different figure from the scene so we put twigs in a large vase and hung the ornaments from the bare twigs ... this was the centerpiece for the food table.

In the past, I've asked for women to 'take on' a table to decorate themselves. The use what they've come up with, and decorate at a specified time. It's really easy to get this kind of help, and there is no cost to your budget! The most fun is seeing how each table is completely different! I've seen mideval, china, paper, and everything in between--all done so very beautifully! This is also a great way to find out who has the gift of hospitality, and get them on your committee!!
