Hey everyone!
New to the board. Was just reading through the posts and just wanted to put in my two cents. I love the Secret Sister programs. At the church I was saved in, they did not like using the term "secret" sisters... so they made it "special" sisters. I guess I can see that somewhat. But the program was the same. cards, little gifts, etc given in secret through the time alloted. It was great for me. It really brought me closer to the ladies in the church. It also was a blessing having a particlar sister to pray for and send encouragment to.
At our revealings, we would bring two homemade gifts. One for the sister we gave to, and one for the sister who gave to us. It was really a blast! I have seen beautiful gifts fromthe heart. Quilts, doilies, soaps, gormet cookies and desserts, cross stitched items, knitted socks and hats, etc. It wsa really fun. We also had themes at the ladies meetings and revealings. Once we had a crazy hat night. You should have seen what people came up with! lol. Another time, we had a " woman in history" night. We had sisters dressing up like annie oakly, harriet tubman, and a host of other ladies. They brought a related food, a little speech to give hinting at who they were, adn we were all supposed to guess who they were. It was great. Talk about some good laughs. Another time we had a cultural night. You dressed up like your drawn country, brought a dish, and a game from there too. We had chinawomen, african ladies, Sweeds, Austalians, etc.
I don't know why some churches don't like the secret sister programs. It has always been a mystery to me. They are fun, encourageing, and help to bring sisters together. It is a great outreach and blessing to new folks too! I think they are great and that women everywhere should look into organizing something along the lines of a special sisters group.
