Please pray for my daughter and her unborn baby.
She had a blood test done for Alpha-Feta Protein.
The results came back positive with abnormal levels.
I don't understand this other than this can mean such things as spina bifida, downs syndrome, or other nueral defects.
She has to go for further testing Monday.
Ultra Sound 2 and possible Amniocentisis.
She is nervous, and so am I.
This is her first child.
She lives about 10 hours away from us and any other family.
Her and her husband are Christians and are trusting God in this.
Please pray for all of us.
Thank you.
(If anyone knows anything about this test, I would appreciate any insight) |

I had this test done in 1991, the military required it, they said it was done before 20 weeks to make it easier to "get rid of it" if there was a problem.
I was mad.
These tests are not very accurate, I would get a second opininon, as in seee another doctor at least before you did anything. There is lots of info on the internet, so many health webisites, if you did a search on AFP I am sure you could find something. If you need help with this, pm me and I would be glad to help.
I am sure this is scary for your daughter, esp with 1st baby ...Praying for you and her. _________________ Anna

My sister was told that her daughter was going to have downs. They done the amnio twice and kept saying the same thing. But my niece was healthy and she is now 8 years old. The told her the same thing about her son......again, he was healthy nothing wrong with him. Like the last post I would get a second opinion. I didn't have any of those test run because I felt like no matter what God was going to give me a special wonderful gift. And I'd take it how every God seen fit. For one reason I was told that I probably couldn't carry ds if I did get pregnant. It took us 5 years to get him.
But my thoughts and prayers are with you all. |

I found out I was pregnant when I was 39. We already had two boys who were 12 and 16. It was a big surprise, since we had been married for 21 years. My midwife asked me if I wanted these tests. She also knew what my answer would be but she had to ask me anyway. One of the reason Dr's do these tests is because of malpractice. Even though there are some people out there who trust God for whatever lies ahead there are those who would SUE at the drop of a hat. So Dr's do these things for their own safety. And most of the time the tests are not accurate. As Joshuasmom said. If something is wrong they have to give you the "opportunity" to take care of it. God does not give us anything that He thinks we cannnot handle. We have a beautiful daughter, she turned 9 last week. And I am glad I did not have any invasive test.
I don't want to alarm you but the amniocentsis can actually cause miscarriage if not done correctly. I hope I have not discouraged you. I will pray that God will give wisdom and strength to your daughter. _________________ I enjoy this sight so much. I look at it daily |

Thank you all for your replies. I'm not sure why she had to have the test, I'm sure she didn't ask. Being there without family and it being her first she is trusting and if they say do it, she would do it.
I have heard that before about drs. finding things out early to give you "time to do away with the baby" (although they probably don't say "baby" do they?) I think that is just awful and I would be mad too as somone stated they were. I think it is awful that drs. would do that.
My daughter has strong convictions on abortion as does our entire family and we know that would not enter the picture. Thank God!
I have since heard much encouraging news from others that have had such tests and things are fine. Just like the one from Joshua's mom.
And yes, children are a gift from God. - no matter what!
He formed them...by His hand...
Appreciate your prayers. |

I had that test and mine came out positive too. I had it because it is a routine thing. Our baby was fine.
On my next child I opted out of that test and had an Ultrasound2. They told me that by baby had small ears and was in the 5th percentile for weight which pointed to downs. I looked up every book I could find about downs so I could be prepared and memorized Psalm 139:14-18. I decided not to have the amnio and just trust God for the outcome. My baby was the sweetest little girl with small ears but weighed 8lbs. 6oz. She did not have downs and is now 4 years old. She still has small ears though!!! What I learned though all of those days is that 1.) God knows what HE is doing. 2.) There is peace knowing that God IS in control 3.) He know what is best for me
They were some of the hardest days to wait through BUT the Lord sustained me and if I did have a baby with special needs God would give me strength through time of trial. I will be praying for you all!! Let me know how this turns out. |

Thank you all for your prayers.
We will find out results late tonight and I will post then.
This morning during my quiet time I picked up my pen and started writing - this is what transpired of that, a poem for my grandbaby:
Formed by the Master's Hand
Little boy or little girl,
it matters not to me -
what matters is the special one
I know you'll grow to be.
It matters not if imperfections
within may impart,
what matters is the perfect love
we'll share from heart to heart.
It matters not if to the world
that you don't "fit the mold"
what matters is, God planned your life
with a purpose to unfold.
It matters not how you may look
our God makes no mistakes,
beautiful to me and also to Him,
exactly as He wanted to make.
You are more than a physical body
you are who you are from within
a blessed heart and soul and mind,
just housed in a body of skin.
Perfectly created by the Master,
as a crafter works with a loom,
He worked out every detail
when He knitted you in your mother's womb.
And so it matters not to me
though I may not understand,
what matters is by Faith I know
You were Formed by the Master's Hand. |

That is absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing with us. I'm sure that will be a well-treasured poem. In fact, if I have your permission, I'd like to print it out for my husband to have in his sermon files. It would go perfectly with certain sermons. Would that be all right? _________________ My Verse of the Week: "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all the heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." Absolutly!
Feel free to use it. (That goes for anyone who reads this)
It was God-given and I will pass it on.
I have printed it up and it will be placed in the scrap book I am making for my grandbaby. |

Hello Guest,
What a blessing to read your poem. I'm sure others will be blessed by it as well. Our pastor's message yesterday morning was on 'All Things Beautiful in His Time' dealing with mostly how we don't know the outcome of things or maybe never will but God knows the purpose. Your poem reminded me again of what strength we can draw from that.
Will continue to pray for this situation.
Have a blessed day,
