Hi again, I need some more help. I am going to start a another project in my church. I am on the Women's Ministry team and we have tons of ideas. I was wondering if anyone has created a cookbook with recipes from the church attenders to be given out to them and others. I have some ideas, but was wondering how you went about asking for the recipes. Did you have a letter you sent/delivered, did you have a flyer, an annoucement in the bulletin (or both)? If so, could someone send me samples. Also, what was the deadline for returning recipes to you? A month, longer??? Wow, I am full of questions. I hope someone can help me. Also, we are thinking of printing it ourselves and not charge for the books. If anyone has ideas on that too, that would be great!!!
Thanks.
Trish

When young ladies in our church get married I make a cookbook for them made up of recipes from the ladies in the church. I use Word and print each recipe on a 4x6 card. You can find photo albums or cookbooks that have clear plastic pages in them that will hold (2) 4x6 cards per page. The nice thing about this format is that it can be added to in the future.
There is a thread along these lines under the General Forum. You might find more suggestions there.

Another question, I want to add verses to some of the pages. Does anyone have any suggestions of where I can look for verses about food. I have found on-line concordances but they have you look for the acutal word. The verses don't need to have words like 'bread', 'salt', 'fruit', etc. Those would be nice too, but some about food in general I would like. Any help?
Thanks.

I have a 'few' scriptures in mind that might be of help to you:
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the spirit is....
John 6:35 I am the bread of life. He who...
1 Corinthians 10:31 So whether you eat or drink, or...
Psalm 52:8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house...
Psalm 33:5 The earth is full...
Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweet...
Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the Lord...
Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger...
You could use one scripture with graphics for every food catagory you have. I sure hope this helps!

| We have recently had a recipe book printed and we asked for everyones favourite recipe. When it was all collated together with bible verses we were fortunate to have it printed for a nominal amount. We sold the recipe book for $5 and these funds went back to Ladies Ministry. If you are interested I can send you one of these books as a gift from me. You may be able to pick up some different recipes and verses. |

Our ladies' group did a cookbook through Morris Press as a fundraiser for our teens' mission trip to Africa. There is some helpful info. at their web site at www.morrispresscookbooks.com, even if you don't use their services.
It helps to decide ahead of time what categories you will have and let ladies know that. We made up a flyer with information about when the recipes were due, what categories, the purpose of the book, etc., and handed them out to everyone.
It isn't absolutely necessary but very helpful if you ask people to submit recipes on the same size card or paper, i.e., all 4x6 cards or all 8x11 sheets. I didn't do that and had all sizes and shapes, and it was a little hard then when I wanted to sort them in the order I wanted to use them. I ended up taping eveything to an 8x11 sheet just so I could stack them up. Some people just took their recipe cards and copied them every which way, which, again, wasn't impossible but harder to deal with, especially if they had different categories on the same page. You might want to ask them to sibmit one recipe per page so that it is easier to sort them into categories. What works best is if they e-mail them -- it saves time so you can just cut and paste the recipes into the format you are using, plus reduces errors from "typos" made while copying their recipe.
The company we used let us send in verses or quotes or artwork as "fillers" for the bottom of pages where the recipe ends but there is not room to start a new ones, so I spent a lot of time with my Online Bible looking at verses under "eat," "drink," "hunger," and anything else I could think of. I'll post them, but it probably won't all fit in one post:
Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
John 6: 47-48 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am that bread of life.
John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
Psalm 119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Revelation 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Proverbs 25:21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink.

Matthew 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Barbara: WOW!!!! Thank you so much for the verses. I am half way done with typing the recipes. We decided to make them ourselves. Also, most printing companies require a minimum cookbook order and we aren't making that many. Your verses will help alot. I have lots of room to add verses and quotes. We are also including the plan of salvation in the back, so this book can be a witnessing tool. I am still waiting on a 'letter from the pastor' but he has been busy. We received over 300 recipes and I am still getting people asking if I need more. The deadline to submit them was over for a month, but people are still finding more. Unfortunetly, I had to say no, since I need to get this done before Christmas. In my mind, I am hoping for the end of this month (August), but we'll see. Vacation Bible School is in a couple of weeks and like always I have taken on several things for that too. I know I am serving God in this, but it gets to be long days since I work full time too. Anyway, I could go on for hours, so I will end this and get back to typing recipes.
Thanks again.
