We do a Secret Sister program at our church every year. I really love this aspect of our ladies group. I always do my best to see that my Secret Sister gets a little something from me every month, even if it's just a card. Unfortunately, not all out secret sisters participate with as much dedication as they should. Last year I heard from my SS once...all year long. Does anybody have any tips on how to encourage participation and to make sure only those who really want to dedicate the time & energy are the ones participating?

whoever is in charge of the secret sistes has to keep up and make sure they they are connecting their secret sisters, and see if they can help in any way.
maybe every so often, have a specail day they call Secret sister day, like every other month, promote them to send out.

Every once in a while we put a reminder in the bulliten(sp). Just a little note that says "remember your secret sister." That seems to help some. It's something that happens in every church. Last year I got so much stuff from my secret sister that it almost became embarassing. This year I've gotten just a couple things, which is fine with me, but it does bother some people. Another idea would be to hang up a sign in the hallway or somewhere where a lot of people would see it. Simply write on it, " Just a reminder, remember your secret sister." I also try to put a reminder in the monthly newsletter every so often. Hope this helps.

Since I'm in charge of this, I give everyone a copy of the expectations up front. We have a monthly obligation for our secret sis program - can be a quick note, a gift, whatever - but needs to be once a month. Mind you, it doesn't always happen that way, but at least everyone knows going into it that it needs to be taken seriously.

The other thing is that I don't pressure anyone to participate. The first round we did a church, a lot of ladies felt obligated to do it. They were the ones that forgot their secret sis-es all the time.

We have a small church, so it's sometimes obvious when everyone has started letting it slide. I usually send out a postcard twice in the 6-month period reminding everyone. It helps that way.

I know that we can't always keep people from dropping the ball, but follow-up is important in any ministry.

Ladies,
So many times the importance is on gifts instead of prayer. So if the ladies aren't getting a gift, they might think they are being forgotten when actually they are being prayed for. I think a nice reminder in the bulletin something like this would be appropriate:
"Are you praying for your Secret Sister? Why not send her a card and let her know?"
