Has anyone hosted a church-wide dessert theatre? We're planning our first one which will be presented in December, and I'm eager to hear your ideas and suggestions, particularly in regard to the food/service aspect. Did you serve an array of desserts, or all one type? Any ideas for Christmas/Winter-themed centerpieces?

Your thoughts will be appreciated!

My favorite centerpiece I do for Christmas is using a large clear glass bowl and placing a set of battery operated mini Christmas lights in it and fill the bowl up with large Christmas bulb ornaments. Then I bring the lights up through them so they are spaced kind of evenly. The whole bowl just kind of glows.

Hi!! I have been busy and haven't been on this site in a few weeks. It makes me glad to see women of God working for His will and for the Kingdom!! Keep up the great work.

This last Christmas holiday the women's ministry team (which I am a part of) at my church held a 'Christmas Salad Supper'. It was a very fun night and everyone loved it. We 'throw' it together in a matter or a month, so we are very glad that it all worked out. What a great team I work with. We had different kinds of salads and also dessert salads. The desserts went over the best. There were about 50 women there and we had 8 round tables that sat 8 each. We had a sign up sheet for a women in our church to decorate a table. They brought in their china or holiday dishes, silverware, glasses, and whatever centerpieces they chose. Some people had candles with beautiful figurines. One lady works at a flower shop, so had a breath-taking floral centerpiece and candle. Candles was common on most of the tables. My favorite colors to decorate Christmas are blue, white, and silver. That is how I decorated my table. Fortunatly my china matched that. Other tables had those same colors too. There is nothing wrong with red and green, but they are used so much and it is hard to find red Christmas stuff without Santa.

Boy, that was a lot of information. I don't know if I answered your question. My suggestion is, use crystal candle holders, and have white and blue candles. I found a beautiful blue velvet table runner that fit the table perfectly. You could add some white flowers (if that is in the budget) or buy some silk ones and reuse them.

I enjoyed reading about your Ladies' Salad Supper. Our church does the same kind of thing each December, with numerous ladies volunteering to decorate a table in the theme of their choice. They are absolutely gorgeous! Last year I collaborated with a friend and we did our table in a "sweet shop" theme. We made numerous kinds of homemade candy and displayed it on tiers in the center of the table. It was a hit, and the ladies who were seated at our table were thrilled to learn that we'd provided a box for each of them in order to take a selection of the treats home! This year I'll be decorating my table in an Heirloom theme, using old black and white photos, quilts, teacups, etc.

Anyhow, getting back to the Dessert Theatre...

I appreciate the ideas that both you and Julia provided. I did follow up the link that Julia gave me, and stumbled across the coffee bean Christmas trees. I think this may be the perfect centerpiece for a dessert theatre! I still need to work it all out in my brain, but I'm excited to have a lead. Thanks!

I am the Women's Mission Director at our church. I am interested in the idea of having different ladies decorate different tables. What else have you all done with this? Is there some kind of contest? Do the ladies just sit whereever they want? What have you all done in the past with this? I can't believe I am sitting here nursing a sunburn and talking about Christmas plans...oh well

In our church, the Women's Ministries board asks for volunteers to decorate a table for the Women's Christmas Brunch. A floor-length white tablecloth is provided for each decorator's table, but they are free to top it with the tablecloth/placemats of their choosing.

The fun part is that each decorator creates a theme for her table. In the past, we've had themes featuring angels, snowmen, and the nativity. Some tables are extremely elegant, while others may be more rustic or casual. Each decorator brings in her own china or Christmas dishes, as well as the goblets or glasses of her choice. She brings in all her needed decorations, and often provides a favor for each guest at her table. Favors have included candy, votives, and ornaments.

I believe that the brunch usually begins at 9AM, but the first half hour is simply for the purpose of allowing the ladies to walk around and enjoy all of the beautifully decorated tables. At the conclusion of the event, each decorator is responsible to clear her table. I always carefully pack my china in a box and wash it when I get home.

We do not feature a contest for table decorating. This is just a much anticipated event in our church family, usually featuring between 25-30 tables. It is a lovely day in every way.
