This is the theme for our ladies' luncheon later in May, and using the "clothing" part of that in our decorating, etc. We're using the idea from Julia's "Toolbox" on the Creative Ladies Ministry web site about the fashion show for a skit. I am not quite sure what to do about centerpieces but am thinking of incorporating those old-fashioned paper dolls in some way.
What I'm "stuck" on is what to do for favors. I like to use something with the verse on it. We did magnets two years ago and small lotion bottles (a lady in our church has a side business making lotion and soap) with our "own" label with the verses on them last year. We'd need something for 60-80 ladies and girls that's not too expensive -- the ticket price just goes for the food, so as not to be too expensive, and everything else comes out of our budget. Any ideas?
By the way, I wasn't sure what to do for special music, but one morning in my devotions in Psalms. I came across a verse about the Lord being our strength, and that brought to mind a verse from a song by Francis Ridley Havergal that I just discovered a few years ago:
I could not do without thee,
I cannot stand alone,
I have no strength or goodness,
no wisdom of my own;
but thou, beloved Savior,
art all in all to me,
and weakness will be power
if leaning hard on thee.
The song is entitled "I Could Not Do Without Thee," and it touches my heart every time I hear it. I think someone in our church has a beautiful arrangement of it that I am going to see if we can get some ladies to sing. |

| How about little sachets filled with potpourri for their clothing drawers. You can add your scripture theme to it. |

I love that idea...It seems to go along with the theme perfectly. _________________ Jodi

Perhaps little sewing kits could be purchased as favors...inexpensive...for your purse when you have a sewing emergency.
Hope it all goes well.

I have used scrap material and cut it into small squares with the crinkled edge scissors and placed them sporadically down the middle of the tables. Then I also used small spools of thread and a few buttons for decoration. That is cheap. Ask the ladies of your church to donate scrap material. I purchased the small spools of thread at a dollar store and got a thing of buttons at walmart real cheap. Hope this helps stem an idea for you. _________________ I Corinthians 10:31b (KJV) "whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." |

We are having our banquet this weekend and our theme is "Pattern for Mother Clothed in Purple." Our theme verse is Proverbs 31:22 which says "She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple." We are having a fashion show to include the many "hats" (which are our accessories) a mother wears (maid, nurse, baker and worker). Our devotional will be to answer three questions: Who is the designer? How will you develop the pattern? What is the selection of fabric? At the very end, we are bringing out our last fashion show contestant which is a woman clothed in purple (royalty) and wearing a crown (our reward). Our decorations in the tables will include old sewing machines with purple silk flowing from the machines and patterns, thread, buttons, scissors, etc. laid down the tables. The favors we have made are potpourri sachets that are little dresses. The dresses are made out of lace. We found some that is 8 inches wide and only $1.00 per yard. We cut the lace 5 inches wide per dress and sewed them. Then stuff with purple potpourri. Sew purple ribbon for shoulder straps and tie on purple ribbon like a bow around waist. My husband made us 75 little hangers out of big paper clips. We glued the shoulder straps to the hangers. They are so cute and really inexpensive.
I was so excited to hear about your theme. Isn't it great to know that the Lord can use similar themes to reach his people. I hope our ideas can help you out. Good luck.
