Do you know his favorite vacation spot? Perhaps you could arrange a couple nights away for he and his wife or family. I know we would love it if someone in our church did that for us. Or does he have a hobby he enjoys? My husband enjoys fishing so for Christmas the church gave him a gift card to Bass Pro Shop.

Hope that helps.

He is so busy. He has a full time job at G.E., and is a full time pastor. I don't know if he'd have time to get away. I know he likes to hunt and fishes occasionally. maybe and some one has an idea of maybe on day out filled with fun or relaxation. I don't know how he will feel about a spa. I know he would not remove clothing for a women to massage him. but any ideas other than a spa?

Hi Theresa,

Have you thought about doing a 'This is Your Life' type thing? I've been at a couple churches that honored their pastor that way. They had different people from the church that shared short testimonies of blessings the pastor had been or funny stories about him that they remembered. Also they got a couple special people that he admired and brought them in as surprise guests. They also highlighted things and accomplishments in the church that had happened since he came and things like that showing what an impact he had had over the years.

You could also get photos of him from childhood on up and make a special slide presentation or video presentation. It depends how much time you have to prepare in order to do the work for something like this though.

Hope this helps,
Julia

For my Pastor's birthday we always collect an offering and give him a gift cert.
He loves the Riaders he's big time into football, hunting, fishing and all the outdoor activites.
One year we purchased Raider tickets on the Monday night game. The staff usually takes him to lunch and we really pump it up in the service that day to.
You could talk to his wife and try and plan a special getaway I love that idea so many times we just need to get a away from the phone, people stopping by, and you know the rest that comes with ministry.
You can go online to priceline and get some hotels for really good prices. Just a few weeks ago I went to Los Angeles and we stayed at the Marriott this was at least a 4-5 star hotel it had everything you could think of and we only paid 45.00 per night by going to Priceline. Just a few ideas I don't know what you budget is but it sounds to me that your Pastor works really hard and I would want to spoil this great man of God. Sometimes we take for granted what a Pastor's job is really like and what an extra load he is caring. Good Luck!
