In the past few months I have started a women's ministry within my church. It is for all women but we seen to have drawn a younger group....20, 30, 40's. I started out with the bible study...Falling in Love with Jesus. We all have enjoyed this very much. Now that this is wrapping up, we are looking for a new bible study that will be of interest to everyone. I have talked to a friend and she suggested a Beth Moore study called When Godly People Do Ungodly Things......has anyone done this one before? If so, please give me some insight. Also, how do I get the older women of the church involved? Thanks!! This web-site is just whant I have been looking for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our group just finished doing a simple 6 week bible study from the book Secrets of the Vine. It is the same author from The Prayer of Jebez. Secrets of the Vine would compliment the bible study you just finished.

I have not done that particular Beth Moore bible study, but I have been blessed through eveyone of hers that I have done. "Jesus the One and Only" is awesome, "John the Beloved Disciple" very powerful, "A Heart Like His" - great! And I am currently doing "A Womans Heart, God's Dwelling Place"...oh what a blessing it has been! I haven't found any of these I haven't liked, and each one only draws me closer and closer to Him!
I love to hear when God's people make committments to studying His word! You are doing a great thing in leading these studies!

I have done Beth Moore's 'A Woman's Heart, God's Dwelling Place' on my own. I can't imagine not liking any of her studies.

I have gone to a couple of Kay Arthur Precepts studies that my church offered and enjoyed those as well (can't recall the exact study names right now).

Our church offers studies on Tuesdays at 9:30am (for women only and child care is provided) and at 6:30pm (open to men and women with no child care provided). They also offer them sometimes on Wed. nights, but that excludes a lot of people that are involved in other ministries such as GA's, RA's, Mission Friends, Nursery, Choir, etc.

Our ladies bible study group has just started When Godly People do Ungodly Things, I have read the book and it was fantastic, what an eye opener. We have done most of Beth Moores studies and they are all very good. Another really great one is Breaking Free! She has a new one being released at Christmas called Believing God! I had the opportunity to do this on-line, another awesome study, she is a very gifted teacher!

I really enjoyed "THE PRAYER OF JESUS", by Hank Hanegraaff. It's a great look at prayer and very motivational.

Even better is "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire" by Jim Cymbala, Pastor of the Brookly Tabernacle.

The church I used to go to held two one at 6 AM and one at 9:30 AM (with child care). The 6 AM one worked really well for those women who have to work. I know for me an evening Bible Study simply is not an option. Unfortunately the church I now attend has mostly young moms so an early morning one won't work for them So right now I am not doing a study. I tried doing one on my own but I am more motivated with other women participating.

Hi,

I started a women's bible study last year. We meet on monday night at 6:30. We also have one on Thurs. mornings & it's run by the pastor's wife.
She tends to get all the moms with little kids & some older moms too but not many.
I have mostly the older women (40-50ish) who have teens or grown children. After a year, we have grown from 3-5 to 12! I'm excited to see how God has blessed us. I am starting to get the late 20-30 year olds, for this study. I also have the working women who needed a night study.

We have used the Kay Arthur books and we love them! She makes us work, but we are growing strong in the Lord! We have done the LORD series. We started, Give Me a Heart for You, then, Lord, Change Me, also, Lord, I'm torn between 2 Masters and now we are doing, Lord, Heal My Hurts.
I think the Study we are doing is what brings out the older women. I am 45 and my baby is 17. I have 2 girls in college, one son in the army & married (BTW, one girl is engaged). So, I personally didn't want to work on anything that had to do with marriage (been married almost 25 yrs.) or parenting. They do that in the morning study. I feel as an older woman I am now ready to deal with life's experiences & how they have shaped me. I am no longer consumed with small children & I can work on giving God %100. Older women are also trying to holding on to our sanity, because we might have teens! And of course there's menopause or pre-mental pause & hot flashes, etc. Back to the subject.
Maybe you should do a questionaire for the women in your church & find out what the older women would want.
I know for our group of older women we want a group that is going to get into God's Word deeply & not the fill in the blanks suff. We are strong in prayer & encouragement & love for our christian sisters. Our humor is a bit different than the 20 yr. olds. They haven't had teens yet!

I have been leading womens studies and small groups for many years. The one thing you might consider, is the content. Different studies will create different dynamics within your group. Studying something that brings forth alot of personal issues or pain will cetainly create a different tone than say something like the holiness of God. I am not saying one is prefered over the other, only to take that into consideration. Those are the things I think about before choosing a study. Hope that helps.
