Hi Y'all
Any help on what I can give hubby for valentines day? He is so sweet and deserves something special. I don't work outside the home and I'm sure y'all know how good the ministry pays! So I don't have lots of $ to spend. I don't want to do the take him out to dinner thing, for 2 reasons really, 1; he always takes me out for valentines day, and 2; that's nothing really out of the ordinary for us so it wouldn't be "special".
Last year I called him home in the middle of the day and didn't tell him why. I think it scared him cuz he rushed right home! I'll let you imagine from there. I had went out and bought new comforter/bed set...
it was nice. This year I am at a loss. I don't want to get flowers. Any neat ideas you ladies have done for your man?

One neat idea I saw in a magzine that I used once was to gather different candy bars that have names that you could use, and then get a poster board (or something), and write out a Valentine, taping the candy bars as words in the appropriate places. That doesn't sound very clear....but, say, if you found Hershey's Hugs and Kisses, a $100 Grand Bar, Snickers, Milky Way, your message could read like:
Your love send me to the Milky Way.
Your love makes me feel like $100 Grand.
Thanks for the Snickers along the way.
Hugs and Kisses. |

Hey Val.
Hi there. I know what you mean about mens gifts. I have never been good on ideas there. The candy thing sounds good. What you did last year sounds good. Flowers, clothes, ties, ? I'm just not good at this stuff. |

hi val im Barbara, new to the room,, hahah i know too well ministers pay doesnt support a beuatiful romantic weekend. however i did this couple yrs ago for my preacher guy.. I had him go visit a friend, said theman needed to talk to him,, i had it set up with the man to keep him occupied for couple hours, i set a date around supper time for my hubby to meet with this man.... Soon as he left i scurried around and i had bought a red table cloth without him knowing it, i put it on table, got out my best crystal, wedding gift , i hadnt used in yrs, due to having had 4 kids lol i put out the best china i could find in the cupboard, got some candles and lit them,, now here is the clincher funny though... i had two champagne glasses that my precious dil had bought me yrs ago, why i dont know, i go them out of the cupboard over the refrigerator where i store old dishes, i had bought some grape juice so i put grape juice int he champagne glasses, i took bath, perfume, new outfit whole thing,, l0 min before he was due home i had the steaks and potatoes all done, table was breathtaking with candles HERES THE CLINCHER.......DOOR BELL RANG,,,,, IT WAS THE DEACON OF OUR CHURCH, HE WALKED IN SAW THE CHAMPAGNE GLASSES FULL OF WHAT LOOKED LIKE WINE TO HIM IM SURE,,,,, O MAN I WAS EMBARASSED HALF TO DEATH BECAUSE I HAD BOUGHT A VERY ( Shall we say revealing outfit))))))..... Romance is not dead when you turn 50
anyway he was quit perplexed, i explained what i had done, like i was guilty of something or other , he had to laugh, but poor hubby didnt get to be surprised by me, but the Deacon of his church
we still laugh aboutthat night........... |

Oh how funny!
The fun part was probably trying to explain to hubby why you and the deacon were there, revealing outfit and all!
I bet the laughs lasted awhile on that!
Nice idea. Still have kids here though and that makes it a little tough to do something that romantic.
They are planning all the things for their valentines and forget that mom and dad still want to celebrate too.
That's kinda why I was hoping for some simple gift ideas.
I tried thinking of something for the chocolate. That was a cute idea. My mind is still empty on it though.
So with only a couple of days left, I still have nothing. I really want to show him how much I love him.
Thanks for the laugh. It made my day!

ONE OF THE BEST THINGS MY HUSBAND OF 34 YEARS DID FOR ME WAS WHEN WE FIRST MARRIED.....I WORKED DAYS AND HE WORKED EVENINGS. WE DIDN'T HAVE A LOT OF MONEY BUT I CAME HOME ONE DAY...ON THE DOOR HE HAD A SIGN.."MOORE'S TREASURE HUNT". HE HAD GONE TO A GARAGE SALE THAT DAY AND BOUGHT A LOT OF DIFFERENT COSTUME JEWELRY. ON THE FRONT DOOR SIGN HE TOLD ME TO GO LOOK IN THE COOKIE JAR. THERE I FOUND A BRACLET WITH A NOTE TO GO LOOK UNDER MY PILLOW..THERE WAS EARRINGS AND A NOTE TO LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE. I LAUGHED ALL THE TIME I WAS HUNTING OUR GARAGE SALE TREASURES AND HAVE ALWAYS REMEMBERED THAT BEING SO SPECIAL. LATER I WOULD DO THAT WITH CANDY FOR MY KIDS WHEN THEY CAME HOME FROM SCHOOL. THEY ALWAYS ENJOYED THOSE DAYS. PERHAPS YOU COULD DO THAT WITH THE CANDY(SNICKERS AND CUTE NOTES) AND GIVE HIM A SPECIAL TREAT AT THE END WITH YOU IN THE BEDROOM WITH SPARKLING GRAPE JUICE IN THE WINE GLASSES. KID WISE....I'M SURE YOU COULD TRADE OUT WITH A FRIEND FOR BABYSITTING FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS. ANOTHER IDEA I HAVE PLANNED TO DO BUT NEVER HAVE IS TO HAVE MY HUBBY GO TO A FRIENDS AND PICK UP SOMETHING FOR ME. WHEN HE WOULD GET THERE IT WOULD BE CANDY OR SUCH WITH ANOTHER NOTE(SIMILIAR TO THE ABOVE BUT NOT AT HOME). YOU CAN HAVE HIM GO TO AS MANY OR AS FEW WITH THE LAST ONE BEING TO GO TO A RESTRAUNT. THERE HE WOULD FIND YOU WAITING FOR HIM TO COME EAT WITH YOU. MY PLAN WAS TO HAVE IT AT ONE OF THE HOTELS AND EXCUSE MYSELF AFTER WE ATE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM? BUT INSTEAD GO TO ONE OF THE ROOMS AND LET THE WAITER GIVE HIM A NOTE WITH THE KEY TO THE ROOM. YOU CAN GO FROM THERE. _________________ I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me!!!!
