I was wondering if anyone could give me ideas on good fundraising ideas. Our church is a small church so we have kinda limited funds. We also have never had a large ladies ministry so we don't really have a lot as far as decorations and stuff so I feel like I am always buying things for our ladies get-togethers. I have been purchasing a lot of the items myself or I send them to the church secretary but I feel bad taking money for our ladies ministry from other funds. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

In the past I've done a craft fair which brought in about $ 1,000. I charged $ 35.00 per booth, then we had bake sale and also sold food. At the time we had about 15 - 20 women in the ministry and they all helped but I required them to because we were using money for the retreats and conferences. I also made alot of funds selling candy bars. I always go to the dollar tree you can buy some cute things and fix them up. I am going to do an fundraiser for Valentine's day a dinner and comedy show. I am charging 50.00 per couple and that includes childcare expenses too. I hope I have helped you.

I wish I had some new ideas. But unfortunately the church elders where I currently attend are DEAD set against fundraisers

When I went to a Congregationalist Church in New England some of the fundraisers that we had were, Plant sales, Thanksgiving Dinner (which has since turned into a free meal for everyone who doesn't have a place to go on Thanksgiving), Tag sales (Clean out the closets and help the church) etc.

I will have to admit that my church also is mostly older families . We have some younger couple but very very few. I did run the idea of a "garage sale" by one of the members of the church and she told me that I had to watch how we did it. Oma, when you had your tag sale how did you do it? Were you able to display that it was for your ladies ministry? If anyone has ideas on the "garage sale" type, that would be great.

On the candy sale, can you give me more information on how you did it and where you sold it and all.

I'm sorry , I just don't want to make anyone in our church mad by not doing this correct.

I can certainly understand that. We Christians tend to act like porcupines at times. "Don't get to close to 'MY' ministry"

Had a pastor teach about "tough skin soft hearts" but that's a whole other post.

Our tag sale was for Children's ministry. And was called the Children's ministry tag sale.

Also, we had a food pantry and crisis ministry housed in the church. The thrift shop would frequently have tag sales to, both clean out excess and raise money for the food pantry.

Have you done a Church Directory lately. If not, some of the places that do them let you sell Coupons for $10.00 or so and with that you receive a free 9X13 or whatever size picture. The $10.00 goes to your church for each coupon sold and the photogher gets the chance to try to sell their groupings. We did this and raised around $800.00. If you don't live in an area that has Krispy Kreme Donuts......you can also contact one of the Krispy Kreme stores and buy a dozen donuts for $2.50 and then take them to your town and sell them for whatever you desire to make on each box. We have made good money in our town selling them on the corner of a busy intersection on a Saturday morning.

For the candy bars, we went to See's candy and we bought the candy bars for .50 and sold then for a dollar so we made .50 for each one. I have seen people selling them for 1.50 a bar. We live in califronia so See's candy is really big out here.

With the candy bars, where did you sell them? Did you set up a table at the church and sell them or did you have the ladies each take some and sell them outside of church?

Were you able to tell everyone what you were selling the candy bars for? I think I said this before but one of the ladies in my church said that when we were talking about a garage sale with all the ladies pitching things in and then putting the money towards our ladies ministry. She had told me that she didn't think I could use our ministry's name.

If anyone knows more about displaying our name for the fundraisers, let me know.

For garage sales, some cities have ordinances/laws that you have to have a permit (and fee sometimes) to have one. Check with your city. Sometimes they will not allow 'groups' to have one, so you may have to have the permit in someone's name (not the group), but there is no reason why the proceeds can't go to charity or any type of thing. Usually people just make some signs that say, "All proceeds to go....whatever the group"

Also when you sell candy bars, like if you have a table before Walmart or wherever, you have to have a sign that says, "for a donation of..." you can't usually just "sell" items or you get into the nitty gritty of having to have a 'seller's' license or 'business license' from your city. Most people just call them "donations" and get around it. It depends on your city ordinances on doing things like that.

With the candy bars, what worked for me was. I had each women take 2 cases which were 48 candy bars and basically they would take them to work and sell them or they would have their children sell them around the neighborhoods. We did sell a few at church , however our Pastor is very supportive of each ministry for we just make signs and put them up saying where the money is going. We also will announce it from the pulpit too. So far, it has worked.

Speaking of Walmart, Did you know that you could have a car wash at walmart and they will match the proceeds of your event.. You have to call and schedule the fundraiser. We did that over the summer.

Depending on where you live places like Carl's Jr., Burger King and some grogery store will give you 25% of all the proceeds that you bring in. You make flyers past them out and of course have everyone past out flyers to friends and family and then you go on the night they tell you and you can earn money there.
Dairy Queen will give 10% not sure about Mcdonald's. Everyone goes out to fast food so it's kinda like "Family Night" Hope I have helped....
