Need some ideas for Senior Citizen in our church. Very large portion of these people have lost their mates.

A simple luncheon with maybe a few of the SC who are willing to speak about their spouses and about their walk together following Christ>

Hi Judy,
Figuring out things for this age group is always so hard. I know we were in one church where they did a Senior Saints meal, I think it was every other month on so and other people in the church brought in the food and left it for them so that none of the seniors had to worry about bringing something. Then they would have special things planned for them, like speakers, other people in the church to sing for them and just gave them a time to sit and talk with each other. They really enjoyed it when they'd have groups of children sing for them and stuff like that. I don't think the biggest thing is planning something for them to do but just getting them together so they can talk with others their age.

I'm probably not much help either

Hey There Judy;
One thing we did at a Valentine party was before the night I had people to write down something nice that their mate had done for them. I asked for them not to sign it or tell anyone what they wrote down. The night of the event I had someone read out the things written down and the people had to guess which person wrote it and about who they wrote. It went very well.I think it is nice tat you are thinking of these folks they get left out sometimes. Good luck, Glen

I was just getting ready to ask for a theme for our widows Valentines Banquet. Every year our church has the Deacons and their wives set up a Valentines Widows Banquet. Each Deacon is assigned 2-3 widows when they are elected and are responsible for keeping in touch with them. Each deacon family is responsible for hosting and setting up there table with decor, china and a centerpiece for their widows. There is usually a theme for the event (which I'm having to come up with this year). We serve them a nice lunch with some extra activities such as a singer. I think I will go with the "Cherished Memories" I saw on this sight and ask each widow (that RSVP's to their Invitation) to bring treasured memories to set at their table so they can share some of their memories. I am planning to have song sheets with old hymns they can sing along and I like the idea of having the younger children come sing for them. We usually do this right after our Sunday morning worship. Deacons provide transportation for those that may need it. Hope this helps! If you come up with anything else let me know.
