I would like to offer an idea on your joyful journey retreat
Use a map for a program directing them to follow the streets of joy charity love prayer etc to victory avoiding wrong turns on anguish strife etc. decorate the hall with similiar effects.... sounds like a JOYFUL JOURNEY TO ME!
I am new here just sgned up today I hope we can assist one another in the future. _________________ Jeremiah 33:3 ... call unto me and I will answer thee and show you great and mighty things which thou knowest not... |

OH MY GOODNESS!! I just checked out that website with all those theme ideas for banquets! I can't believe how many there are! It's like a pot of gold! Thank you for suggesting it!! I too, only got about halfway through it - I was actually looking for the "backward" one and it sounds like a hoot! Don't know if I could do the "underwear" thing though! Hi Bonnie,
It's good to have you here. Your theme sounds like a good one to me. It's one of those you could go in any direction with. I was going to suggest what someone did earlier and direct you to the travel agencies for posters. Some suitcases or a large trunk might be fun props. If you use some kind of ticket or form for them to fill out to come, make it a 'passport'.
You might find a few useful ideas in the "Order My Steps" theme, which revolves around 'shoes' but you might could adjust it somewhat.

The devotional for that one is here. Well Dress Feet...

The rest of the themes on this site are here.

You'll find skits and icebreakers and other things needed in 'The Toolshed' where most of the Women's Ministry ideas are located on the website.

Hope this helps _________________ Joy and blessings,

At our retreat in September 2003, we used the "Journey" theme in the form of a Hawaiin Cruise. The theme for our retreat was "SS Celebration". The first night, we re-wrote the Gilligan's Island song and had fun with that. Throughout the "Cruise", we had "Ship Activities" which included Coconut Bowling, Hula Dancing (Hula Hoop Contests), Bingo game, "On the Rock n' Roll" (a hymn/chorus version of Name that Tune)manicures, pedicures, facials and massages. The last four were provided at a nomimal cost to the "shipmate" and were done by schools that are not too far from the retreat center. The coconut bowling lanes were painted with glow in the dark paint, so it could be used at night. We also provided Cruise Survival Kits to all the ladies when they registered and had a bathcloth bunny on their bed when they went to their cabin.
For decorations, we had a wonderfully talented and thrifty lady create "Port holes" (her family had a ball coloring them) for the chapel area. We also had life preservers with "SS Celebration" on them and Hawaiian type flowers all over the place. She got those at yard sales for next to nothing.
For our prayer groups, we named the "Muster Stations" and assigned each lady to a Muster Station for that time.
I hope this helps. We had a great time and it was one of the most relaxing retreats I can remember being in charge of. We received many compliments about the work that was put into it and how much fun they had. Let me know if you'd like any other specific information. |

The Muster Station is where you are assigned on a cruise ship if there is an emergency. At the beginning of each cruise, everyone on board has to take their life preservers and find their assigned muster station for an orientation and instructions if the ship gets in trouble.
We used them as prayer groups because our Life Preserver is our Lord and we need to get directions from Him on a daily basis. |
