Can anyone explain a candlelight communion service for Christmas Eve?

Our church has a time on Christmas eve where we come between 6pm to 8pm or so. It is sorta like a come and go. Every fifteen minutes or so our pastor gives a short devotion and then we take communion with those there. I love going to the communion service with my family. It is one of the special times to just stop and give Jesus a little time and thank Him for coming to earth as a baby so that He could lay down his life for my salvation.

I think it's strange and I've always wondered why we don't have Christmas eve service. We are not a large church and it always seems like so many say they won't be around, going out of town, etc. And so we never have service. This year with Christmas Eve on a Wednesday I thought we would have services because it's Wed. and we always have Wed. prayer meeting. But, we aren't having service because so many will be gone. I wonder why? I would go. I told the pastor that. Guess it didn't matter b/c we still aren't having it. Doesn't it seem strange to not have services on the eve of His birth celebration?
