Any ideas for a ladies bible study for Sunday School Class that would be Christ centered not self and would be life changing that isn't a "hot topic" on todays list. So many studies have been done I know, but my ladies, which is a small group of 12-15, like in class in depth study. They are involved with other bible studies and do not need more "home study". It seems all the biblical ladies have been covered also. Perhaps a new insight to one. Thank you.

Kay Arthur has a series of studies called "40 Minute Bible Studies" on a variety of topics.
Our group will be doing two this spring:
How Do You Walk The Walk You Talk
Living A Life Of True Worship

These are designed to have absolutely no homework. You work thru the chapter together in the class.
If you go to Amazon.com and search for these books, you can "look inside" at a few pages and see what you think.

Our ladies SS class thoroughly enjoyed the study "Be Patient, I'm Not Perfect Yet - A Study on the Fruit of the Spirit" This is published by Regular Baptist Press and written by Juanita Purcell. It is a phenomonal study on the Fruit of the Spirit. There are 3 introductory lessons, then a lesson for each fruit. I highly recommend this study.

You all make me soooo nervous when you all start talking about Bible Studies I've had some really big problems in the past with posts recommending some really off the wall things.

If something you don't think should be here gets posted, please email me and let me know. I've been working on my graphics section a lot as that's kind of my home business and I need to push it to make Christmas money Anyways, haven't been in here much lately so please drop me a line if you think something needs attention. I know some of the ladies are watching out for me. Thanks!

Jodi, I usually get my Bible Studies through Regular Baptist Press too. It's about the only Publishing company I can know what I'm getting. I've taught the Joyous Journeys Around the Detours (the Book of Philippians) by Juanita Purcell and I really enjoyed going through that one.

I know exactly what you are saying about Regular Baptist Press. I have purchased several of the Women's Studies. The only one I have personally taught is the Fruit of the Spirit. However, the ladies class (now taught by another lady) is going through the one called "Trials - Don't Resent Them As Intruders". This one is also by Juanita Purcell. She is an excellent author. I really enjoy the way she puts her lessons together.
I highly recommend Regular Baptist Press material (for all ages). They are Biblically sound and you don't have to worry about what you will be teaching your class.

Another RBP fan here! I've sat in Bible studies doing several of the books by Juanita Purcell and thought they were very well done, and very applicable. I taught through the book "God's Portrait of a Beautiful Woman" by Dorothy Davis - another RBP author. That was a tremendous book that was very personally challenging.
I agree, Jodi, you can be very comfortable using these books, knowing that they are Biblically accurate. You can't say that about every book out there.

There are many excellent studies available from many sources.

Of course researching the books and authors is always very important. That goes without saying. But an author can produce one book that is fine and yet in other books or materials they can be off biblically on certain issues. Therefore you can't just look at one book and judge an author by it. You have to be aware of all their works in general and be aware of what types of groups they speak to, what type of churches they speak to, and in general know what type of people they associate themselves with. Look at their speaking schedules, what churches have they spoken in, what people have they been on a platform with. It all reflects back on them.

If you use one thing that may be appropriate, it represents that you endorse the whole, because the ones you are teaching will think it's okay to gather other materials by that author. One person may be strong enough in thier Christian walk to know to filter out the things that you shouldn't accept but everyone is not that way and it can easily become a stumblingblock.

I do not endorse most of the well known women's speakers because many have weak stands on a lot of issues because they are trying to appeal to the mass majority of denominations.

I personally don't feel there are many resources that you can find good biblical teaching for women. I think that 99.9 % of the things offered in the Christian bookstores are missing the mark. It is indeed a rare gem to find something at least for me that I would be comfortable in teaching from the general publishing resources of the "Christian" realm. I just cringe when I pick up the devotional books alone offered in Christian bookstores for women. Most contain nothing but fluff. I can't sustain myself with fluff and doubt if anyone else can really either. Many of the women's bible studies are the same way. Yes, many have good basic concepts, but there are so many areas in some of them that are just weak biblically or watered down. I'm sure so that they will appeal to the broad range of women's groups that will be using them. That's part of marketing but I don't think we as Christian women, who know God's Word have to accept it as okay.

I have never been a Kay Author fan. One reason maybe is because I lived in Chattanooga so long and heard her radio program so long that I really just got burnt out on her. Also partly because I know that she holds conferences that include her teaching to men. Even though she does not portray herself as a woman preacher. I do not believe that is biblical. (A topic that I will not debate here. I know many who join the message board do claim to be women's preachers, etc.) Most know I'm pretty conservative and where I stand on the issue. As long as they don't publizice their views I don't mind them taking part here. This board is mostly an area to glean ideas and encouragement for others. It is not for debating hot topics.

However, I do have a responsibility to this board as it bears my site in the url and I am responsible for anything that I don't feel would benefit others or be a stumblingblock to them. I hope it does not appear that I am 'bashing' Kay Arthur as I do know as with any other speaker she has done good and even has some good work out there. I do have trouble with some various areas of her teachings and I just think you need to be very careful. I also understand that Precept Ministries (Kay Arthur's Ministry) bills themself as a transdenominational ministry and we all know that not all churches and denominations align themselves by the Word of God. I am just saying I do not endorse her and I do not want it to appear that I do if I don't step in and speak on this subject. Also I have a responsibility to my husband who is a preacher/speaker and it also bears back on him and he of course would not want *anybody* to think that he or his wife endorsed Kay Arthur.

What you use in your church is up to you and your church leaders, and Kay Arthur's materials may be endorsed within your church, however, I can't allow that here.

My husband and I have discussed many times whether to leave this board up or not. We don't feel like we need to close memberships to those who do not necessarily agree with us on all topics but we want ladies to be able to find the ideas, encouragement, and women's ministry helps they need and to glean from others. On the other hand it does make it difficult when someone recommends something or a person that we do not agree with biblically because we have a responsibility not to become stumbling blocks ourselves.

I'm going to go ahead and lock this topic partly because I've went through this many times and had to delete so many posts and people's feelings were hurt in the process and also partly because my husband asked me to lock it. Thanks for your understanding.
