Hello everyone,
I'm planning our WM's Christmas Party and was curious to know what your plans and ideas are for your WM's Christmas Banquet/Party. I am hoping to gather some creative ideas from you all.

We've always done a Christmas tea...which, if I had my way, we'd have in January! This next year, we will have it the week before Thanksgiving...that way, none of us have to panic just to 'fit it in' to our schedules!
This year's theme is "The ornament of Christ"...our guest speaker has written a wonderful book called "What Child is This?", so I am very excited! We have wreaths we used last year, and will decorate them differently--with berries, pinecones, and plaid bows--and place a candle in the center. We've also made ornaments out of watercolor paper that have a name of Christ on each. The ladies will get to go home with these, as a reminder of not wearing Jesus, but ingesting Him and letting Him live out in us. I've had a tough time of it this year, because all of the sudden I am decorating the whole church, and for the area pastors banquet too...so I'm just using the same decorations for the whole thing. I went very inexpensive this year, and it will be a "down home" decorating job...our focus this season is on family (teachings, music, etc.), so this was appropriate.
All we usually do for the "tea" is potluck salads/desserts, guest speaker, ornament exchange and sing a few carols. This is also the time we give our winter donation to our chosen chairity. We keep it "light" because it is an outreach event, so guests are encouraged. Also, we charge just enough to cover the cost, usually $2.00 each.
Hope some of this helps!

In years past, my favorite Christmas program we organized was centered around "light".
We followed "light" thru the Bible ("let there be light"....the light in the tabernacle....the spiritual darkness the preceeded Christ's birth....Christ, the light of the world....and finally WE are the light of the world). The message was that the light has been passed to us and our job is to spread that light.

We, of course, included a wonderful song, during which all lights were off and we passed a flame to each attendee (they were given a devotional candle when they arrived). It was beautiful.

"Light" is my favorite Christmas theme.

Second favorite theme is the "Jesus is the reason" theme. Using the Mary/Martha scenario we emphasized the importance of the "Martha duties" but the real NEED of following Mary's example. It was all about balance and priorities.
We added a time of sharing where the ladies were invited to share their family traditons and activities that make their Christmas special and Christ-centered.

Every year we also host a "Sing Around the Tree"--however, this is for the whole church. Some years, we've just given hymnals to everyone, and we sing *every* Christmas carol in there...other times we have special music or a preformance by the children....this year, each SS class will preform, then the choir, then we'll wrap with carols. It is the single most attended holiday function we have....*everyone* shows up, and it is a ton of fun!
